Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) Content Writing
Bye Bye Blackhats
Sadly, there was a time (not that long ago) when many SEO “gurus” were gaming the search engine system; telling everyone that the only way to get on the first page of Google was to stuff your page with your keyword(s) a gazillion times.
This led to some very difficult—and redundant—content to read. Text that was clearly meant for search engines, not for your customers or potential customers visiting your website!
Online copy with keyword stuffing often read something like:
We sell custom cigar humidors. Our custom cigar humidors are handmade. If you’re thinking of buying a custom cigar humidor, please contact our custom cigar humidor specialists at…
Happily, those days are gone.
If you try keyword stuffing today, you’ll almost certainly get a negative ding from Google, rather than a boost to your rankings.
Latent Semantic Indexing rewards you for writing naturally.
Thanks to Google’s Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI), you no longer have to worry about how many times you use a certain keyword or phrase. It’s more important to first, and foremostly, just write naturally. Overly simplified: Google looks at all the page copy, synonyms and related words, to establish relevancy of your content, not only individual keywords or keyword phrases.
And the reason why is more important than understanding Google’s algorithms (which are changing constantly anyway). The reason why is because Google wants you to provide valuable—readable—content to your readers. Information that educates, or inspires, or otherwise engages readers, rather than publishing page after page of nonsensical content simply to get your site to rank higher.
If your content is valuable to your readers, Google will know, and reward you for it. More importantly, you’ll be providing your existing and potential customers with content that helps nurture their desire to do business with you.
Writing naturally, isn’t the same thing as optimizing for search engines.
Providing naturally written copy is a great start, especially for your readers, but really only addresses a few specific variables for search engine optimization. Getting your site or individual content ranked higher on search engines takes a lot more than simply writing naturally.
In all honestly, marketing and SEO experts are still trying to game the “search engine” system. Which isn’t all bad. Of course clients want to rank higher than their competitors, and who doesn’t want to show up on the first page of the all-mighty Google?
True SEO experts understand that the “gaming” doesn’t ever require black-hat strategies like keyword stuffing. SEO is an incredibly complex science—balancing a combination of multiple SEO strategies for on-page and off-page optimization. The more you know about search strategies and algorithms, the better you’ll be at playing the game. For example, enhancing your LSI keyword optimization based on TF-IDF (Term Frequency–Inverse Document Frequency) techniques:
Looks complicated, doesn’t it?
It is!
So simply write your blogs and web pages content naturally, and then hire an expert to do what they do best: get you ranked higher on Google and other search engines. Contact us today if you’d like to discuss your marketing and search engine optimization strategies.
