If your e-commerce shopping cart abandonment rate is fairly high, you’re not alone.
According to Baymard studies, the average cart abandonment rate is 68.53% . Pretty shocking, right?
But if you think about how you yourself shop online, it’s pretty easy to understand what causes an online shopper to change their mind at the last minute. Once you know what’s triggering any hesitation you can adjust your e-commerce sales and purchase process to improve your consumer’s shopping experience.
Here are a just few factors to look at for reducing your cart abandonment rate:
- Does your site have a trustmark indicating that it is safe to purchase through your site?
- Are you displaying customer testimonials as social proof?
- Do you have an easily found and clearly articulated Return Policy posted?
- Is your phone number (or online chat support) for Customer Service easily found and included in all stages of the e-commerce process, to assist buyers with any technical difficulties?
- Do you require a user account set-up? Consider a “guest checkout” option rather than requiring user accounts. If you do need to require account set-ups, make the process as simple as possible!
- Are your shipping costs too high? Consider conditional shipping discounts such as free shipping with purchase over a certain dollar amount.
Remember, e-commerce sales is not only about making potential customers want to purchase your product, but also making them feel comfortable and confident throughout every step of the purchasing process.
