“Give me a break. Give me a break…”
If you just read the above and completed the rest of the phrase with the KitKat jingle you ‘heard’ in your head, you’ve just experienced the power of connecting your brand’s message with music. (Sorry about the earworm you’ll now be undoubtedly left with.)
So why aren’t more businesses using music and earworms as a marketing tool for brand recognition?
Many small businesses believe “jingles” and music are typically reserved for larger brands advertising on radio or television. Yet leveraging music in marketing can be a powerful tool even for small brands.

- Integrate with your video blogs or podcasts (intro and outro theme music).
- Have it playing subtly in the background at the beginning and end of online webinars.
- Include it as audio for live presentations.
- Include it in the mix for background music at events your brand participates in such as festivals and trade shows.
- Include it in the mix for background music at live events your brand hosts such as workshops and seminars.

This is a great tip! I just heard a story this morning on NPR about welfare reform. Apparently a mayor/welfare reformist in California created these ridiculous jingles to educate people about welfare, and it worked! He made a CD and everything. Iām sure you can imagine the magnitude of the cheesiness, but people loved it.

Love it! Cheesy jingles often work better than others – especially for intentionally tongue-in-cheek campaigns. It’s all about the memorability of the earworms and associated message. Thanks for sharing. Gotta go find that CD now…

Good think there’s an AM/PM convenience store half a block away – gotta get a KitKat bar and get this tune out of my head. Thanks for not talking about Disney and a SMALL WORLD!!!!!

Sorry about that Steve. But now you’ve just left us all with an even worse earworm. Hmmm… thanks? ;o)
