Do You Know What Month It Is? (Leveraging awareness months)
Did you know October was Domestic Violence Awareness month?
Seems like now-a-days every month is dedicated to one cause or another. And there are so many to be aware of, it’s hard to keep up.
Leveraging awareness months (or days/weeks)—in addition to holidays, special causes and local and national events relating to your business—is an important factor of your online blogging and content marketing plans.
What better way to let your target market get to know the heart behind your brand than to write/share about a cause you both care about? Plus, well-recognized events and causes tend to generate more social engagement than the old “did you know we do xyz?” type of content, so your blog or social media post is likely to be seen by a much wider audience.
Here’s an example of leveraging awareness months and causes for our client, Garwood Family Law and Mediation. As a divorce attorney, this firm handles a fair amount of spousal abuse cases. Since this is a topic directly related to their brand, it makes perfect sense to write a blog about it for their website and to post socially. Just a quick Google search provided the foundation for statistics that are easy to highlight and for others to share.
…every 9 seconds a woman in the United States is assaulted or beaten.
This blog was posted on their website and then shared socially on various channels and also included in their monthly newsletter: You Aren’t the Only One Hurting – Spousal Abuse Affects Your Kids Too
That’s all there is to it. Start with a plan; a content marketing strategy that includes a schedule of awareness and other important dates/activities related to your brand, and incorporate those into your blogging and social media marketing calendar.

PS: If you, or someone one you know, is the victim of domestic violence, please share the above blog with them and encourage them to speak up. Help is just a phone call away.
